RS Blog 1 - Ultima Build

Finally getting to do actual work on the car instead of merely looking at it. This will be the start of the build chronology.

First task is to remove all the body panels and find a way to properly store them. Took me a while to understand a good way to hold them and not damage or distort them. Fiberglass can flex and bend, especially when stored incorrectly. The stand I built will hold both front and rear clam shells.

All wood is reused from the shipping crate, along with some 8” pneumatic wheels from Harbor Freight.

Don’t fret, its secured with zip ties!

I also plan on adding some wood slates on the bottom to allow for a bit more storage. I think the mock engine block will fit nicely there out of the way.

Start Taping

Next step is to try and protect the beautiful black powder coating. Lots and lots of tape along with some heavy paper.

That’s all for this weekend. More soon to come when I drill out rivets and take off the cockpit body panel and side pods.
