RS Blog 23 - More Shiny Stuff Arrived
More things that I am burdened to install on the exotic car I’m building. I know poor me….
For anyone curious about seats that will fit into our Ultima’s, I believe I’ve found the best option even if it requires some slithering into. I honestly have no clue how hard it will be to get in once the body is installed, but damn its comfy inside.
I went with a Tillett B4 carbon fiber seat on TB1 mounts. Two fold benefit, first it places my body in a great position for pedals, wheel and head space; second it gives me a home for the fire bottle that is out of my view and out of my hair.
One downside is the low should position meaning I’ll have to sort out belt routing and likely end up wrapping on cross bar instead of using the provided mounting holes. Minor inconvenience for much better seating. My brief sit in a factory set of seats was far too upright and I didn’t want to lay them back or order similar saloon car seats and lay them back.

The made to order CNC aluminum pan from Dailey Engineering arrived and it is gorgeous. Very much looking forward to getting this on the bottom of my LS7. A few reasons I went with their option beyond just being shiny. Their dry sump pump is integrated into the pan meaning it doesn’t have another pair of lines to run for scavenging, eliminating failure points and simplifying installation. Additionally they are the only company I could find with a left mounted pump, meaning I keep factory A/C mounting down low. This lets me use the Ultima supplied HVAC lines, time and energy saved.
They are a small business based in SoCal that wants to make excellent parts and the quality of macining shows.
One minor headache with this option is the AC compressor and accessory stack. With an external sump pump I have three different belts; oil pump (primary concern), alternator (second priority), HVAC (nice to have). With a custom order ATI damper I am able to retain the standard pump placement close to block, with serpentine belt next and finally the AC compressor belt. From all my measurements this triple stack will fit. Here’s to hoping measuring multiple times works out.
Last little share for the momentum.
Mocking up the dash to see where buttons may end up living since mine aren’t quite the same as factory. Such as the lovely cruise control.
