RS Blog 10 - Fuel Cells
Another short and sweet post. This time I get to be excited about dino juice containers! Ones that should be safe as they are FIA certified. Plus extra bonus they have fuel pumps and transfer lines and even a fuel level gauge!?!
Called up Fuel Safe in Washington to have a pair of tanks ordered. After confirming specifications they took around 5 weeks to arrive and cost $7,000 for pair with setup. Yes ouch I know, but I like not being on fire and well the tanks literally are inches from the rear tires. Any tire or suspension failure will punch into the tank so any and all safety measures are being taken. Unfortunately Ultima only offers aluminum tanks without any bladder.
Configuration:
Holley Hydramat in each tank
Walbro Hellcat 525LPH pump in each tank, capable for 900 hp on their own and e85 ready. Meaning even if I upgrade the engine I’ll be safe for quite some time. Plus in the rare case of a sustained corner draining fuel from one tank the engine will continue to be supplied with plenty of go juice. No running lean from fuel starvation.
Individual feed and return lines
Balance line between tanks - Helping with filling up at the gas station, should reduce need to top off both tanks individually.
Fuel level sender in drivers tank - Daily driver functionality
**For those will good eyes will notice the output line at top of tank will interfere with the chassis, this is easily fixed by swapping plates from left to right tank. An oops from my discussions with Fuel Safe, no harm.
Enjoy some sweet pictures of the tanks. If you need a setup, call Fuel Safe as they are excellent.
Since I needed to swap the fuel return/wiring cover panels from left to right I took the opportunity for some quick interior pictures. Super quick and easy with the handful of 1/4”-28 bolts. Torque measured on removal was around 5 lb-ft, they were re-installed with same.
