Re-Power Race Trailer

For the past few years I’ve enjoyed having solar and a single battery setup on my race trailer. During my last Lucky Dog race weekend I found the limit of my power. Running evening lights two nights back to back, the ARB cooler plus the various other power needs drained my single battery. We ended up grabbing a second battery to finish out the weekend.

Pushed me to desire a bit more power and improved wiring organization. Simple upgrade project.

Existing System Specifications:

  • Pair of 12V deep cycle marine batteries

  • Single 100W Solar Panel w/PWM charge controller (it is just a trickle charge between race weekends)

  • Harbor Freight 3500lb winch

  • 1000W Inverter

  • 12V Dual USB Source

  • Powered Tongue Jack

  • Break Away System

Prior Fuse Block Setup

I put this together years ago when I first installed the solar panel and inverter. At that time I didn’t have a winch or even powered jack. But as time went on I continued to upgrade and add to my setup.

Leading to my current need to rebuilt it.

Design First

Before ordering anything you must first know what it should accomplish.

After some research I settled on the Blue Sea Systems - SafetyHub 150 Fuse Block. It has both large gauge terminals for my larger loads up to 150 amperes as well as the normal small items. Extra nice feature is an integrated grounding block. Time to get to work!
