Organizing my new race gear

With the Passage of Time

Your gear begins to age out or wear out and thus must be replaced. My trusty Pyrotech helmet, SA2010, served me well for many years and provided the comfort and protection in case of a major driving error. With its replacement came the desire to get a new suit, gloves and shoes. Looking to make my time behind the wheel a bit more comfortable.

  • Arai GP7 Helmet - black frost

  • Necksgen REV2 Carbon

  • Alpinestars GP TECH v3 suit - white/black/orange

  • Alpinestars TECH-1 Race v2 gloves - black/orange (Dirtfish)

  • Sparco Slalom+ shoes

Now that I had all this great new gear I needed some efficient way to carry it all. Spending time visiting the local race shop at Sonoma and scouring the web for options. It yielded no real good results during my initial searching, but I ended at an Arai GP Circuit Wheeled Bag.

Ultimately a poor choice for my needs as it is huge and I’ll be returning it promptly. Thus began a new search with different parameters. Looking outside of auto sports expanded my horizons and lead me to gym bags, generic duffles and ultimately cycling bags.

The end result is this awesome bag from Thule, separate compartments with enough room to hold all my gear and squeeze in a bit more.

Enough flexibility to take just my race gear to a track day or couple it with a weekend bag and have everything I need in one “quick to grab” bag.
