Monterey Rolex Reunion 2022

Every year I enjoy heading to the central coast and its world renown road course for some wonderful cars and historic racing. In past years this typically involved camping near turn 6 and supporting a friend with all his Morgan’s technical needs. This year with the entry list changes his 1958 Morgan Plus 4 didn’t qualify, but we still made our way down to enjoy racing and the coastal weather.

Trio of Mazda rotaries. Love the orange and green livery.

While I’m not a huge fan of the latest Gordon Murray cars, this engine is exquisite. Such attention to detail, insane power to weight and compact form. Wish I could hear it run in real life, but expect I’ll only get to live via the internet.

We also were able to witness the first ever ‘hill climb’ at Laguna Seca. Most memorable was Matt Field’s run up the corkscrew. Amazing set of skills, nailing perfect lines while flying up the hill in a cloud of smoke. My race competition and I can barely nail the apex in the right direction after hundreds of laps….

Until next years event!

As always, thank you Greg for the invitation and great weekend at Laguna Seca.
