Measure Once Wire Twice? Morgan

Actually the opposite is correct. Wiring always takes longer than my brain thinks. Made another trip up to Plymouth and made some solid progress. We cut off some more wires, removing the Prince of Darkness’s grip on this British roadster.

End of today’s progress yielded:

  • Drivers front lighting sorted and awaiting smoke test

  • Starter good to start

  • Alternator ready to move electrons

  • Passenger front lighting wires cut to length and loomed

  • Cut and crimped the battery cable aka power source

  • Verified rear lighting wiring

  • Hooked up the transmission wires so we can confirm the car is obeying speed limits

Enjoy the montage of photographic records.

I’m confident we can get this thing powered up next time and see what I wired wrong. Still need to figure out the hazard switch, it seems Mazda used an odd configuration of a double pole double through and parallel switch…. Not fully sure, might need to get a switch from a Miata for that to make things simpler.

Next time on This Old Car!

  • Wire in OBD II plug under dash

  • Fuel tank plug (need to find one)

  • Tidy loom under dash on passenger side

  • Brake switch

  • Rear Lights (plug in passenger footwell)

  • Fix relay wiring (exposed wires)

  • Cooling fan plug and cover with Flexo loom

  • Connect alternator signal wire under dash

  • Light/signal stalk (wiring connections)

  • Windshield wiper motor
