Final(ly) Wire Organization

There are sometimes tedious tasks which you wish you could put off forever. This was one of those because it is going to take patience and time to ensure a nice end result. I’ve procrastinated long enough by cleaning and organizing my shop, it was time to start this final wiring effort.

Plan Ahead

First task is to plan the wiring, where each one will terminate and its partners. Th grouping will lead to other decisions about the final assembly. My preliminary wiring just grouped the circuits loosely and I added as needed, some ended up with a large number of connections as noted with the grounds (gnd).

Next I needed to securely attach the terminal block. While a terminal block is not quite as neat as a factory harness, I prefer the flexibility it offers especially for custom builds. Splicing into wiring harnesses later is always a pain and I’ve learned the project cars tend to evolve leading to a need to get a 5 volt source or ground in the future.

So for the 911, I’ve added an 8 terminal block for all the power and grounds wiring. Making a tab and rivet nut allows an easy attachment and removal later. Below captures the process.

I realized that I didn’t have the correct ring terminals for the volume of wires I’ll be relocating. So another order of parts that should arrive early this week. Looking forward to the final clean up!
