Day Trip to Point Reyes

There are plenty of rallies, trips, and adventures that require cash to participate, but sometimes the best ones are just among friends and only cost your time. Colleen and I casually planned a day trip up the coast for brunch, followed by a drive back to our house to watch Formula 1. Very small contingent of friends joined. Overall a very low key day with zero expectations.

Point Reyes to Concord

Last Chats Then Drive!

Sharing the planned route with Brandon. Decided to take an easier (less twisty) route towards Point Reyes as the local roads can hide water in the mornings. Saved those for after brunch…

Heading out highway 4 towards Richmond to pick up another friend along the way. Enjoying the gorgeous weather along the way.

With the fourth car and racing buddy now tagging along we exchanged walkie talkies and were ready to roll.

Using the hand held radios helps with quick communication for important items such as road debris, slow cars, bicyclists, etc.

Made It and Picked Up a CX-5?

Wound our way up to Point Reyes with minimal ‘Sunday drivers’ and ended up with this random friend following us. Chris from Coastal Rally was out scouting his upcoming rally route and spotted my WRX and decided to follow for a bit.

Very random encounter, but great to catch up. Clearly we chose a decent road if Chris also chose it for his real rally. Although finding good roads isn’t too hard in northern California…

Apparently my own feet were interesting… who knew.

Explored the town a little while we waited for the restaurant to open, missed the timing… They open an hour later on weekends. Reminder to self to double check hours before planning the next run.

Successful Brunch (Greg, Colleen, Curtis, me, Brandon)

Full Belly

It was time to head home. To diversify our drive we took a route out past San Pablo Reservoir winding through Alhambra Valley towards Martinez and ultimately Concord. Nothing took exciting, but provided some nice curves to follow on a beautiful day. Along the way we found some interesting other vehicles.

Wrapped up the evening by watching Miami GP practice and qualifying. Fun times with friends.

Until the next drive!
