NA/NB Miata Clutch Bypass

September 2014 - Miata’s at Laguna Seca Raceway (I’m the orange in the 5 of MX-5)

It all started with an amazing community… the miata community…

While getting familiar with the and learning about its nuances I stumbled upon a trend to override the clutch interlock safety switch. The idea was to reduce wear and tear on your thrust bearing during engine start up when oil pressure was still low.

The option on the market essentially was a mechanical thing that held down the switch behind your clutch pedal. While it worked, I had hear they were a bit tricky to install. They also weren’t a nice clever solution since it was a mechanical part for an electrical switch.

After a bit of research and investigation I found there is a plug near the switch. With a lot more web scouring I found the corresponding plug blank and thus the solution was found.

Coordination with 949 Racing to market and sell them and I was in business actually making a bit of money on the side to support my new addition.

They are still available at 949 Racing.

And so I started creating hundreds of them….
