Dry Sump Planning LS Miata
Visited Xin to discuss options on improving his LS miata I built for him a few years ago. It has been plagued with oil blow buy issues and we suspect its due to crankcase pressure. A dry sump will solve this and add protection for road racing.
Here are our initial notes:
When replacing the front crank pulley for an external oil pump it will need to match the current setup. Ensuring all our accessories align in the tight front space
Wondering where the filter will live with respect to the dry sump system. Perhaps moving to the trunk with oil tank.
It currently is remote mounted in the drivers front fender
Need to reach out to vendors and learn more about their systems
Not really any room along transmission tunnel without risking heating issues. Consider placing a pair of bulkheads for oil lines to the trunk. Running down the passenger side of the interior.
More thought required
We should wrap the starter to protect against heating next to the headers.
