Dry Sump Planning LS Miata

Visited Xin to discuss options on improving his LS miata I built for him a few years ago. It has been plagued with oil blow buy issues and we suspect its due to crankcase pressure. A dry sump will solve this and add protection for road racing.

Here are our initial notes:

  • When replacing the front crank pulley for an external oil pump it will need to match the current setup. Ensuring all our accessories align in the tight front space

  • Wondering where the filter will live with respect to the dry sump system. Perhaps moving to the trunk with oil tank.

    • It currently is remote mounted in the drivers front fender

  • Need to reach out to vendors and learn more about their systems

  • Not really any room along transmission tunnel without risking heating issues. Consider placing a pair of bulkheads for oil lines to the trunk. Running down the passenger side of the interior.

    • More thought required

  • We should wrap the starter to protect against heating next to the headers.
